Kathmandu: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has emphasized the importance of conducting more research on the legacy of the late BP Koirala, an influential leader and the first democratically elected Prime Minister of Nepal. Speaking at a seminar organized by the NC's Professional and Intellectual Department on the occasion of BP Koirala's 111th birth anniversary, Deuba stressed the relevance of Koirala's ideologies today, especially his principles of nationalism, democracy, socialism, and national reconciliation.

Deuba urged young people to understand and embrace BP Koirala's political ideologies and democratic socialism in addressing current issues. He called for deeper studies and global promotion of Koirala’s legacy, remarking that Koirala’s socialism is centered on human values, rights, and democratic principles. He further stated, "There can be no socialism without democracy."

In his speech, Deuba praised Koirala not only for his political influence but also for his literary contributions, noting his 18 literary works. He referred to BP Koirala as a "Big leader of a small country," recognizing his dual influence in both politics and literature.

NC General-Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa also spoke on the relevance of Koirala's thoughts, advocating for the party to adopt and advance his ideologies. Thapa echoed BP Koirala's vision of creating job opportunities for the youth and elevating all Nepali families to a middle-class status through increased production, equitable distribution, and social justice.

The seminar, themed "BP's Socialism: Relevance Today," served as a platform to reflect on Koirala’s enduring impact on Nepal’s political and social landscape.
